NEW CLASSES STARTING IN APRIL OF 2014

Its that time of year again, we will be having open enrollment for our next class beginning April 7th this is for both Mighty Mites (6-8 yrs old) and regular class 9 yrs and up). The Mighty Mite classes are on Mondays from 5:45PM-6:30PM and the regular class is on Monday from 6:30PM-7:30PM and on Wednesdays from 5:30-6:30PM. There is also talk of an adult class starting soon I will be doing some research into this and find out what is the most feasible days. If you would be interested or have a child that is interested in starting karate please don't hesitate to contact the club at 724-494-9353.

This is not only for white belts, heian shodan is a kata you keep coming back to, to re-evaluate your basics as you move up in ranks.

REFER A FRIEND

Refer a friend: If anyone attending the dojo refers a friend and they stay on for the first month, the next month is free for the current student! A current karateka can refer up to 3 friends!

BASICS

Your Kihon (basics) in karate are like a foundation to a house, they have to be solid and strong, for that is what the basis of your kumite (sparring) and Kata (prearranged basics) rests upon.  The better your basics the better your karate.  Click on the below link to freshen up your basics between classes.

Due to the Labor day holiday there will be no class on Monday Sept 2nd, but be ready for on Wed we hit the ground running.

NEW CLASSES

PROMOTION CLASS

Great training and kyu test this morning with Sensei Maeshima. Our students looked ready and did a great job, but the million dollar question is were they promoted? Come and find out at the all ranks and maybe promotions class at 6:30PM on Monday evening

STILL TIME

TESTING

Students did good at testing on Saturday, there were some things that they did good and others that could be improved, but that is karate there is always room for improvement. There is all ranks testing for all those who participated in Saturdays testing on Monday at 7:30PM.  The mighty mites who did not test this saturday still meet at 5:45PM

NEW CLASSES SET TO BEGIN

New Beginners classes for ages 9 and up begin April 29th at 6:30 PM. Call 724-494-9353 for more information.  Karate is beneficial for everyone regardless of age, if there are enough adults who are interested I will begin an Adults general class.

HEIAN SHODAN

Not only is this video for the mighty mites but it is also for the intermediate and advanced belts to review, because the intermediate or even advanced belt I believe this is a good measuring stick as to where your karate basics are.  If your Heian Shodan is off than I feel the rest of your karate may be off.  This is just my opinion, so please take the time to really study this kata and take your time to perfect it.

For those of you that are visiting from the dojo please look around you will see links to basic techniques that we do in class in previous posts, as well as a video for tying your belt, for those of you that are new or need a reminder on how to.  Also on the left hand side is a link called Modern Karate Kata that will direct you to a bunch of videos of kata that will be learned during the course of your studies, please don't jump ahead, instead focus on the kata you are currently working on, or for those more advanced students look back and review.
